U11Bs away - Sparkling Fleet sunk by Odiham’s batting onslaught.

A slightly overcast morning with brief glimpses of sunshine welcomed OGCC U11B to Fleet’s home ground for a
match that would prove to be classic. Odiham under the captaincy of Billy Michael won the toss and elected to field. Some precision pace bowling from James L-B and Seb J set the tone, requiring the Fleet batsmen to show their best to work them away to get runs – which they did efficiently and at high tempo. Fergus VdF first ball claimed a wicket and his bowling partner Luca Christopher claimed a second in short order which stuttered the Fleet progression but there was strength in depth from Fleet who despite losing 3 further wickets, 2 to blistering catches, (James L-B, Barnaby W) posted a towering score of 117-5, with Watkin and Gilbert top scoring from Fleet. In response, Odiham built on steady foundations in the early overs, with Fleet’s attack being solid line and length making it difficult to score freely – after 6 overs we had only amassed 17 runs but the middle order came alive showing resilience and self-belief with glittering partnerships through the rest of the order, every batsmen playing their part. Henry D was the accelerant to the conflagration of runs(23) but his partners supported and scored well(Peter W, Ned M). There was still work to do as Fergus joined Luca at the crease, who had already shown his mettle with the bat with some quality boundaries, two mighty 6s from Fergus drove down the run rate but it still need some further strong batting to bring the total in sight. Barnaby W sealed the game with a 6 to secure a win in this mammoth run chase; Odiham achieving 119-1. A superb cricket match played in wonderful spirit at Fleet, which was nip and tuck through both innings. Well done to all the players and many thanks to the parents and supporters.
