U11B: Indomitable Holybourne stun valiant Odiham in tit for tat run scoring masterclass.

Evening sunshine and a warm summer breeze provided the perfect backdrop for a dramatic encounter between OGCC U11Bs and Holybourne U11A’s. Having lost the toss Odiham were invited to bat and the opening pair of James R and Billy M set the score board ticking over early with some sparkling shots and quick singles. The momentum was maintained through the middle order with all contributing, until Oli F put his foot on the gas to score 22 off 2 overs. Henry D had set his stall with some blistering shots at number 8 only to be caught at mid -on by an outstanding catch which any test player would have savoured. Wickets had steadily been picked up by Holybourne, but with 6 balls remaining there were still 2 in hand, Oli had returned to the crease to add 7, only to be dismissed by a towering catch on the boundary. Billy Mand Peter L saw Odiham to the allotted 20 overs to post an impressive 113-9.
In response, Holybourne were quick to take up the gauntlet and set about our opening pace attack driving and pulling even the straightest and quickest of deliveries. Scoring at 10 an over for the first 5 overs, they dissipated all the pressure reducing the required run rate to a shade over 4 an over, but their rampage did not stop. Despite, some solid line and length bowling, Holybourne snatched every opportunity to rack the runs up reaching the target with 6 overs to spare and all wickets in hand. Odiham’s cricket, team spirit and tenacity could not be faulted but Holybourne were indomitable.
Well done to all! Many thanks to all parents and supporters but most of all the players who made this match a real spectacle to watch. Particular well done to Freddie P who played up from the U9’s and very much held his own.
