U9A vs Hartley Wintney

By Jonny Orange
Freddie Pocock (captain) lost the toss and we were put in to bat.

I thought they bowled and fielded really well. Very few extras.  They didnt miss many catches. 6 of our 8 players hit boundaries. A Fantastic start to the season.

Our two stand-out batters were Ollie Kimber (14) with 3 boundaries and Annabel Coetzer (19) with 3 including a monster 6 over the hedge. We finished on 280 and we were out 6 times.

We still need to work on scoring more singles (less dot balls) and being out 6 times did cost us 30 runs. Our bowling was ok. We probably gave away too many extras. More than last week for certain.

Thomas O was fairly economical, as was Eliza Harker. We looked in real trouble until Freddie Pocock and Henry Janaway picked up two wickets each. Super bowling. Their last two batsmen then scored heavily and it all came down to the last ball. Needing 2 to win.

Somehow they scored 4 runs, without hitting a boundary- so I wont dwell on how that happened but it was thrilling all the way to the end. Well done all.
