Report by Andy Stenning.

The 3rd XI finally got their first official win of the season away at Overton 3’s (after the non-match that was St Cross!)

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first Henry Schooling and Bill Edmunds opened the batting and put the team in a great position with a stand of 58 before Bill saw his stump removed from the ground.

After a couple of quick wickets Andy Stenning came in at 5 and went on the attack hitting 9 fours and 4 sixes in his innings of 73 before missing one on his leg stump.  Harry Daysh who had played a key role in a stand of 77 with Stenning, went on to complete his maiden senior 50 finishing on 54 not out.  This left the 3’s with a great score of 237-8 from their permitted 42 overs.

Heading out to take the field the 3’s were determined not to allow their great position to slip.  A top spell of opening bowling from Ryan Lewington and William ‘Macca’ MacLennan had Overton behind the run rate early on with Macca finishing with 10-3-32-1 and Ryan getting no luck with 6-0-38-0

It was then down to the 1st change bowlers to really lock down the scoring Kerry Hartnett bowling with her normal guile to pick up 2 wickets in her 10-0-50-2 although could have had the Overton danger man out much sooner had the skipper been able to work out where the boundary was (I can smile about it now!).

Sean Merriman bowled excellently picking up 4 wickets for just 21, ripping the heart out of the middle order with a line that gave the batsmen very little.

The only threat came to an Odiham win from Tony Glass, who was picking up on any loose balls, and often even the good balls, but he would eventually fall to the bowling of Lara Barrett, who despite being hit for a six the over before kept faith with the line she was bowling and had him caught by Macca, falling for an unfortunate 99.

The end was not long coming after that with the last man taking a rather ugly swipe and providing a high catch to Harry Daysh.

A great all round team performance where we batted well and bowled/fielded well.
